Need somewhere safe to put your belongings for a few weeks, a few months, or longer? Bearded Bros runs container self-storage from our depot on Springfield Road in Brighton, with 150 sq ft and 75 sq ft units, 24/7 CCTV, and monthly rolling terms. We're based in Brighton, but a good chunk of our storage customers are in Worthing, Shoreham, Lancing, Steyning, Horsham and the rest of the West Sussex coast and downs, and we collect from your door if you'd rather not drive it over yourself.
This guide covers what container storage actually is, when West Sussex households and small businesses tend to need it, and how flexible it is in practice.
A storage container, in the self-storage sense, is a lockable steel unit inside a managed, secure site, not a shipping container sitting in a field. Ours are at Springfield Road, Brighton, next to London Road station, covered by 24/7 CCTV, with access Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 3.30pm.
We offer two sizes, a 150 sq ft full container and a 75 sq ft half container, and we don't size purely by bedroom count since the contents of two "three-bed houses" can vary hugely. Our storage page has a fuller room-by-room guide if you want a steer before you enquire, but the short version is: a half container covers most flats and smaller loads, and a full container plus a half, or crated storage, tends to suit a family house.
Being honest about location: the containers themselves live in Brighton. If you're in Worthing, Shoreham, Lancing, Steyning, Horsham or anywhere else across West Sussex, we collect from your address and bring your belongings to Springfield Road, so you don't need to hire a van and drive to Brighton yourself. For anyone who prefers not to have items sitting in a container at all, our crated storage at Newhaven is the collected alternative, better suited to longer holds where you don't need regular access.
Chain break or delayed completion. Your buyer's ready to move, your onward purchase isn't, and your belongings need somewhere safe for the gap. We collect on your vacate date, hold everything at Springfield Road, and deliver to your new address once your completion date is confirmed. No second move, no scrambling for a family member's garage. Our guide to delayed completion dates and storage covers this scenario in more detail if your dates are already looking shaky.
Renovation. Clearing a kitchen or a whole ground floor while the trades are in means your furniture isn't getting knocked about or buried under dust sheets. A half container is often enough for one or two rooms. A full container covers a whole house mid-refurbishment.
Student summer. If you're heading home for the summer and don't want to pay rent on an empty room, or you're a landlord between tenancies, a half container holds a student's furniture and boxes for the months in between without committing to anything longer.
Short-term and long-term storage suit different situations, and the deciding factor is usually how long you need it and how often you'll want to get at it. Our short-term vs long-term storage guide breaks this down in more detail if you're not sure which fits.

Downsizing. Moving from a four-bed house into a two-bed flat rarely means everything fits on day one. Storing the overflow while you work out what stays, what goes to family, and what gets sold takes the pressure off making every decision on moving day itself. If you'd rather make some of those decisions before moving day, our 7-day decluttering plan is a useful place to start.
Office move gap. If your business is between premises, or your new office isn't ready when the lease on the old one runs out, we can store desks, files and equipment in the meantime. A full container suits a small office's worth of furniture and archive boxes. For anything larger, or if you don't need to touch it for months, our Newhaven crated storage is usually the better fit.
For anything running past three or four months where you won't need regular access, crated storage at Newhaven is often more practical than a container you're paying to access weekly but rarely visiting. Each crate holds 250 cu ft, and access there is by appointment rather than turning up on the day.
Storage with us runs on monthly rolling terms, so you're not locked into a fixed-length contract. If your circumstances change, you can:
We'll talk through sizing and duration when you enquire rather than asking you to guess upfront.
If you run a small business anywhere across West Sussex, whether that's stock that builds up seasonally, archive boxes you're required to keep but don't need daily, or equipment between office moves, a half or full container gives you monthly, flexible space without committing to a longer commercial lease. Monthly terms mean you're only paying for storage while you actually need it, and 24/7 CCTV covers the site around the clock. If you're moving premises entirely, our office removals team can also handle the move itself alongside the storage.
Springfield Road runs on 24/7 CCTV with controlled access during opening hours. Whatever you're storing needs cover in place: ours works out at £1 per £1,000 of value per week if we arrange it, or you can insure it yourself and send us proof.
Gas cylinders and flammable liquids aren't allowed in either the containers or the Newhaven crates, the one hard limit on what we'll take in. Full terms are on our storage page if you want the detail before you book.
If your belongings aren't boxed up yet, we can help with that too. Full packing, part packing for the fragile and awkward stuff, or DIY with materials from our box shop, and we'll dismantle and reassemble furniture on request. If you're storing antiques, artwork or anything else you'd hate to see damaged, our guide to moving antiques and valuables is worth a read before it goes into the container. See our full packing services page for the detail, or our removals and storage page if you need both the move and the storage handled as one job.

Think about how long you'll need it and how often you'll want to get at it. A completion delay, a renovation, or a student's summer are usually a few weeks to a few months, best suited to a container you can access during opening hours. Downsizing, an office move gap, or anything running past three or four months with no need for regular access usually suits Newhaven's crated storage better. If you're still unsure, our short-term vs long-term storage guide walks through it in more detail, or just tell us the situation and we'll point you the right way.
Yes. We collect from Worthing, Shoreham, Lancing, Steyning, Horsham and the surrounding area and bring everything to our Springfield Road facility in Brighton. Collection is quoted separately from the monthly storage rental itself. Call 01273 917898 or use the storage enquiry form with your address and roughly how much you need moved.
Yes. If you started in a half container and need more space, we can move you into a full container, or add a second unit alongside it, rather than making you close one booking and open another. Just let us know when it comes up.
Yes. Storage is available on its own, whether or not you're using us for a removal at the same time. Get in touch with what you need stored and for how long, and we'll come back with the right option.
Yes, and it's one of the more common reasons West Sussex businesses come to us. Monthly rolling terms mean you're not signed into a commercial lease for space you only need part of the year, whether that's seasonal stock, archive boxes, or equipment during an office move. Get in touch with roughly how much you need to store and we'll suggest a size.
